Universal Laws – The Law of Substitution

The Substitution Law establishes:

While on the earthly plane it is possible to let go of something without replacing it with something else, in the mental or spiritual realms, the realm of thought, a thought that you want to let go of has to be immediately replaced by another thought. In other words, it is impossible to remove a thought from your mind unless you fill the space with something else.

In the physical plane you can drop a feather from your hand and have a free hand, but in the mental place that is impossible. The reason for this is that you are always thinking and it is impossible not to think about anything. If you’re thinking about something unpleasant like having to walk home in the middle of the storm that just broke out without an umbrella or a coat, you can’t stop thinking about it.

If you think about it or if you decide not to think about it, it is the same. You can say, “I’m not even going to think about it,” but it’s too late because you’ve done it. You can say, “I don’t want to think about it,” but you’ve already done it, you could also, “Try not to think about it,” but the result is the same. There is only one way to overcome this problem and that is to use the Law of Substitution. It’s impossible not to think of ‘Pink Elephants’ but you can think of the green ones. It is impossible not to think about being in the kitchen of your house but you can think about being in your bedroom.

Instead of thinking about the storm, you can substitute thoughts of a nice hot bath once home and a steaming cup of tea. That won’t make the storm go away, but it will make you feel better. Whatever you focus on, you get and if you focus on the positive instead of trying to push the negative away, which is impossible, life will change.

Thoughts create movies in the mind; If you don’t believe me, try to think of something. Humans see in two different ways; we see through our physical eyes at ‘what is out there’ and we see in our mind’s eye. Mind’s eye images don’t happen once in a while, they happen all day long and I think it’s very rare that internal and external images coincide.

The images you create in your mind’s eye are the result of your thoughts, your words, and even the things you hear around you. When you enter into a conversation, read a book, or watch television, you interpret the words and turn them into mental images. So when you talk about what you don’t want, you get more. If you don’t want to feel embarrassed or stupid, you just figured it out for the ‘Law of Attraction’ to give it to you.

When you speak instead of what you want, to feel confident, relaxed and well-informed, hey, your subconscious mind through the action of Law will give you that instead. To use the ‘Law of Substitution’ simply decide what you want to happen and whenever your mind turns to fear, failure, anger or illness substitute the thought for what you want to happen. Remember that it is not good to try to fight thoughts; you will only make them worse.

In the Bible, Jesus told his followers that the only way to pray was to say, ‘No, No and Yes, Yes.’ Interpreted this is the ‘Law of Substitution’ in action. When you hear a negative thought, deny it. Say: “This is not true” (No) and replace it with whatever you choose. (Yeah). This changes, “I think I’m getting sick,” to “When I wake up in the morning, I’ll feel as healthy as an ox.”
