The response to the first public stable version of Chrome released on December 11, 2008 was amazing. As of December 2010, Chrome was the third most used web browser, according to StatCounter.
However, there are many complaints about the Chrome web browser. Users complained that it freezes while browsing the Internet or downloading files. To find solutions to this problem, we ran experiments on several computers that suffered from the problem. At the end of our investigation, it was found that Google Chrome freezes under the following circumstances:
1. There are too many extensions installed
2. Damaged browser cache
3. Google Chrome registry entries need to be fixed
4. Outdated network drivers
There are too many extensions installed
Web browser extensions are nothing more than add-ons or plug-ins you installed for additional functionality and access to third-party services. For example, you installed an extension to easily access your webmail account.
Google Chrome freezes if there are too many extensions installed. It may be true that you are no longer using most of them. It is recommended to disable such extensions to resolve this issue.
1. Open Chrome.
2. Type chrome://extensions/ in the address bar and press ENTER.
3. From the new page that opens, disable any third-party extensions that you no longer need.
Damaged browser cache
A web browser cache stores a copy of the most recently visited web pages on your computer. All these files are stored in a specific directory on your computer and are accessed the moment you request to open that web page.
Google Chrome freezes if the cache is corrupted. In other words, the files stored in the browser cache are corrupted and cause problems while you are browsing or downloading something with your web browser. To resolve this issue, perform the following procedures:
1. Download a third-party system cleaner.
2.Click on System Cleaner.
3. Check the Internet Cache checkbox as checked in the Chrome framework.
4. Click the Clean button.
Chrome registry entries need to be repaired
Chrome stores application data, user settings, and other relevant information in its registry entries. Bad and corrupt registry entries result in misleading entry and hence Google Chrome freezes.
Repair registry entries with a third-party registry cleaner. Do the following steps
1. Download a third-party registry cleaner.
2.Click on Registry Cleaner.
3. Click the Start Scan button.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Outdated network drivers
If your computer is running with outdated network drivers, Google Chrome freezes. For continued best browsing and download performance, you should ensure that your network driver is up to date.
You can download the latest copy of your network driver from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) website.
