Not long ago, an acquaintance who works for the Los Angeles School District apparently upset his superiors and administration with a complaint and criticism. As he told me the story of his ordeal, I was amazed at what had happened to him. Yeah things happen of course he had been a thorn in their side but they realized they couldn’t fire or fire him due to his seniority and high performance rank of him so they gave him the old man; Opportunity transfer!
Instead of telling him that it was his punishment for giving them a hard time, they actually had the tenacity to explain that it was a “Transfer of Opportunity” which, of course, added insult to injury. It turns out he was sent to one of the poorest schools in the entire Los Angeles School District, in a neighborhood known for gangs, drugs, and very high dropout rates. That doesn’t sound like a great opportunity to me, or to him.
However, the higher-ups of the school district explained that this would give him a chance to shine, to do his best work, and they knew they could count on him. Of all the nonsense I’ve heard in this world, this is how they treat people who question his authority. In fact, the Los Angeles school district has a large number of students under its control, but they do not reach exactly 1000, even recently there was a case of sexual abuse in which they put the entire teaching staff of one of the schools on leave while two or three teachers were arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse.
That’s not exactly building trust with the public, or with the parents of students who are in the Los Angeles School District. Although the school district does not have the highest dropout rate in the country, I assure you it is among one of the districts with the highest dropout rates, and they still have issues with staying in the union, the No Child Left left behind and the graduating students. who can’t exactly write a decent paragraph, oh, but they can text in a storm.
And yet, when LAUSD’s judgment is challenged from within, what do they do? they provide transfers of opportunity for anyone who questions their moral authority. In fact, I would tell you that the problem is much bigger than this problem with a single school teacher who wants to see the district improve. The moral of the story here, of course, is; be very careful with the old “Opportunity Transfer” trick. I hope you will please consider all this and think about it.
