The Battle for America’s Soul !: 7 Considerations

Many, including former Vice President Joe Biden and others, declare that this upcoming November’s election is extraordinary because it is, truly, The battle for the soul of this nation! Whether that is, to some extent, political jargon / rhetoric, or a truly serious threat to the future of the United States and the world, it is, indeed, something that must be seriously considered! In the nearly four years since the nation elected Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States, he has appeared to be one of the most polarizing and divisive political / public officials of recent times! The combination of denying Climate Change (and opposing the Paris Accords), weakening the necessary environmental protections, its unusual rhetoric / vitriol, which, it seems to have pitted, one part of America, against another, etc., its administration, even To date, he has tried to make serious changes, in terms of what many feel, the nation and its Constitution represents, etc. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss what this means and represents, and why many are concerned.

1. Back to the past versus sustainable future: We should have expected much of what we have witnessed, based on the Trump campaign slogan, Make America Great Again! Paul Simon wrote: Everything looks worse in black and white who often sang, slightly, differently, replacing worse with better! It seems that this slogan was used, as an appeal, for those who felt challenged by increased rights, etc. from others, and they looked for someone, they believed, shared their views and would put them first! The current focus, on putting dollars, seemingly, ahead of politics and people, and, using populist rhetoric (populism), rather than a well-considered, relevant, sustainable, strategic plan of action, can generate a clear and present danger, for the health and well-being of future generations!

2. Bias / prejudice, versus, freedom and justice: Freedom and justice for all! Instead of aligning the path of the nation, with these, truly, American ideals, those who support apparent bias and prejudiced behavior, support this president, rather than what others consider, the greater and necessary good!

3. Short-term benefits, versus long-term ramifications: Although the so-called tax reform legislation, enacted in late 2017, would benefit the middle class, the main beneficiaries were the wealthiest Americans and the largest corporations! This law, to a large extent, created huge federal deficits that, it is now clear, will have undesirable long-term ramifications!

Four. Environment: Doesn’t the health and well-being of the nation and the planet demand clear, relevant, and sustainable plans that emphasize clean air and water and protect our environment?

5. Climate change: Although President Trump denies the existence of Climate Change, referring to it, on several occasions, as a hoax, the rest of the world supports the objectives and needs of the Paris Accords!

6. Public health / leading by example: During this horrible pandemic, we have seen the ramifications of paying insufficient attention to public health needs and advice / guidance / suggestions from experts in that area. From his early denial and inability to take timely action, to his unwillingness to set the right example, Trump has made a horrible crisis worse (he was not responsible for the virus, but his behaviors have made the effects worse). )!

7. Polarize, versus, unify: Wouldn’t we be better served if our public officials emphasized trying to come together, for the greater good, rather than polarizing and using a contradictory approach?

Do you agree, we are in the middle of a battle, for the soul, of this nation? Wake up America and ask important questions and exercise your right and responsibility to vote!
