Some of the rarest and most valuable Super Nintendo games

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released in the summer of 1991, and video gamers quickly made it one of the best-selling systems. The SNES was Nintendo’s second console after the original Nintendo. When it was first released, there were only a small number of titles available. But, in the years that followed, hundreds of titles ranging from RPGs to sports were released.

Games for the Super Nintendo remain popular as collectors old and new continue to enjoy the simplistic gameplay. The games have held their value remarkably well, some cartridges can even sell for double or triple their original retail price. A used game that comes with the original instruction manual and box is worth more than the game alone.

The rarest and most valuable games tend to be those that were marketed to older adult gamers. Earthbound game is one of the rarest game for SNES. The game is an RPG where a young group of friends fight aliens in an effort to save the planet. The version of Harvest Moon (a popular multi-platform farming simulation game) made for the SNES is another one of the rarer games.

Other RPGs that are specifically weird are Chrono Trigger (which many fans still consider the best RPG of all time) and Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. Any title with classic Nintendo characters like Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda or Metroid is usually valuable.

While these games may not be extremely rare, their popularity and value persist due to their replay value and character recognition. All three Donkey Kong Country games are still valuable, as is Mario Kart, which features all of Nintendo’s most popular characters. Kirby is another popular character that appears in various SNES titles, all of which remain popular.

Games like Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Metroid are on most lists of the best games on the system. Any game that is as highly regarded as these holds its value especially well even though many copies may have originally sold.

Newer systems may have better graphics and more sophisticated gameplay, but people will always have a nostalgic need to play the games they grew up playing. There will always be people who enjoy collecting old games.
