Is your website compatible with iPhone and Blackberry?

You want to make sure you have the essentials. You want to make sure there is text for the phone and email. If the phone number is on a chart, you should write it down and then mark it. If the number is in text, smartphones will allow you to click on it and make the call.

This is important because 58% of online consumers currently own a mobile phone capable of connecting to the Web. (Source: PriceGrabber.com, April 2009). Of the online consumers with web-enabled phones, 21% own a smartphone, 8% own an iPhone (TM), and 29% own another type of web-enabled phone. 42% of Price Grabber respondents said they own a non-Internet-enabled phone capable of using voice and text-only service plans. Despite the economic climate, 8% of online consumers purchased their first Internet-enabled phone in the first quarter of 2009.

We are in a tough economic situation right now, but the number of smartphones keeps increasing. So we have to adapt to the times.

Steps to make your website compatible with iPhone and Blackberry

  • Make sure your website doesn’t have too many graphics.
  • Some funeral homes have these great “Welcome Pages” that are just graphics and / or Flash. You have to click “enter here” or “skip”. That is not really easy to use. People are busy and tired.
  • Make sure the phone numbers and email address are in text so they can be easily clicked when someone is using their smartphone and they can access the number or email.
  • Consider a mobile version of your website. Make sure your site has a feed that you see is a mobile browser and provide them with a different site design that is more mobile friendly.

A TEST you can do: Go to Google and enter: cache: YourFuneralChapel.com or cache: Your URL. This is the text that search engines see and what browsers see. The mobile versions of this will put the phone number right at the top of the web page that you can click and call directly. If it is blank when you do this test and you click on the text version only, then you know that people may have a hard time communicating with you via their mobile device.
