Ideas for girls’ birthday parties: princess costumes

Wow your party guests with a princess themed birthday party and watch the smiles and excitement grow. Decorate a room with a magical princess setting and have a huge treasure chest waiting for the guests. Once all the guests have arrived, bring out the treasure chest filled with costumes for each guest to turn into a princess.

Fill your treasure chest with costumes, tiaras, gloves, wands, bags, shoes, crowns, etc. Each guest will be able to create their own princess costume from the variety of treasures. Make sure you have a private place for them to change. You can hang a curtain in the corner of the room or make a room divider out of a refrigerator box painted and decorated like a castle. You can cut out a couple of windows in your castle and then it doubles as a photo prop. If you are a bit more creative and artist or even if you are not, an alternative idea is to make a princess Cinderella carriage out of the box with a window cut out so you can use it as a photo prop.

A great idea for a girls’ birthday party is to print photos from your home computer if you can. You can print each princess’s photo on the prop and put it in their goody bag as an extra special thank you and a little treasure for them to remember the wonderful time they had at your little girl’s birthday party.

Now, don’t forget the shoes! No princess is complete without beautiful shoes. You can fill your treasure chest with children’s play shoes (small plastic high heels), but remember that not all feet will fit in such small shoes. Another great idea is to add old heels from your closet that you no longer wear. You can also go and get great deals from op stores. If some of the old high heels are a bit drab, get creative with some gems and hot glue from the craft store. Little princesses love to wear adult high heels!

No princess is complete without a tiara or crown. A creative craft table is also great fun for making crowns and tiaras and helps keep the little princesses busy while you organize the party food. You now need to cut thin construction paper/cardboard 1″ to 2″ wide and long enough to go around their heads. Also pre-cut shapes like flowers and hearts to decorate for little bowls of gems, stickers, buttons, and ribbons. You will also need kids glue and glitter glue pens. All you have to do is set the table and the princesses will do all the work!

If your budget allows it, a Face Painter is always an exciting addition to a girl’s birthday party. If your budget doesn’t allow it, you can try painting your face yourself. Just find some designs like butterflies, crowns, tiaras, and stars and practice with your kids before the big day. Not only will you get better with each practice, but your kids will love getting their faces painted, and it’s an opportune time to talk to them about gifts they’d like to receive and ideas they have for the party.
