Have you ever considered a road trip dinner?

A road trip dinner is not the usual image that comes to mind when people think of the words “dinner”. By roaming, I mean not just staying in one place, but roaming from one private location to another, perhaps a course in each? Perhaps the first course in a garden setting, then indoors for the main course and dessert?

When they hear the words “dinner,” most people imagine a small group of guests eating at the host’s home—a dinner party. A relaxed meeting in one place.

But it does not have to be like that; in fact, I recommend that you try a totally different dining experience with your friends, neighbors, colleagues, or acquaintances. Or anyone important enough to you that you’d like to have dinner with.

It’s not that conventional dinners aren’t fun, they’re just typical. Getting around can add an element of excitement, especially if you don’t have to move too far to the next location (imagine hiring a limousine to take you from one to another taking a scenic route). But hey, a walk is just as good! By sharing the preparation of dinner with your guests, you take the pressure off a single cook: a group of friends can share the kitchen but still make the experience amazing. A big dinner can cost a lot, so you can also share the expenses.

A road trip dinner is really a great idea if you want a big meal of three courses or more. I’ll tell you a bit about my last experience.

I have some friends who pamper their guests as much as I do. So, I reached out to two of our friends who live nearby and suggested that we all pitch in and organize a road trip dinner. We were all within walking distance of each other so we didn’t have to worry about driving under the influence or anything. The date was set and we decided who would host the starter at their house, who the main and who the dessert.

It was a magnificent night: the actual experience was the most memorable part of the dinner.

When we arrived at our friends house for the entrance, we were greeted with refreshing cocktails and a light platter of canapes. We sat down and had a wonderful main course and accompanying drink. We didn’t rush, we had plenty of time.

We moved into my house for the main. Arriving at our house, she had all the candles set up and ready to light and had chosen the background music that would create the most atmosphere. It was the Buddha Bar CD: I had been to the Buddha Bar in Paris. for dinner and bought his CDs as a souvenir… this was the kind of music I wanted to play as I had enjoyed my meal in Paris listening to it so much and it also brought back wonderful memories.

Of course, I had prepared a meal ahead of time and upon arrival I was able to quickly put the finishing touches on the plate and dress the salad so it was delicious, crisp and fresh. We had bought a bottle of Pinot Gris wine to go with the fish dish he had prepared.

We ate and laughed and talked. Even though we knew dessert was at our other friend’s house, the whole experience was just thrilling…and since we knew from the start what our plans were, we were all prepared that dinner would involve moving.

When we thought the time was right, we moved on to the final destination where our other friend had once again thought hard and prepared the right dessert for the occasion. He had prepared a baked dessert and all he had to do was pop it in the oven while we settled into our new environment. Once again the mood had been set with lighting and the table was beautifully set with flower arrangements, wine glasses for dessert and the cutlery and plates for our pudding. We settled into the new environment and soon the dessert was ready to be served. it was really amazing..

The whole dinner took a few hours but of course it flew by and before we knew it, it was done.
But not forgotten!
