I am not referring to the changes made to the game by Blizzard, I am referring to the changes made by the players. usually players start making the new content and forget all about the rest of the game. So if you want to farm gold in Cataclysm, you have to know where to go. At first, people will seek to level up the new profession, Archaeology. That means they will be in the old worlds most of the time. Then you should go farming in the higher level areas like Northrend. Store as many resources as you can from there and only put them up for sale when there are very few of them. And that will happen because people will be busy with something else, but they will still have gold.
Once you’ve noticed that most players are starting to get higher and higher level in Archeology, move to the lower level areas and start collecting resources there.
