Forgotten Sega Genesis games of the past

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since I got my Sega Genesis. Things have come a long way since then, but that doesn’t stop Sega from maintaining the classic status it still deserves today.

Sega’s Genesis was right up there with Nintendo’s entertainment system, which changed the way the world played games and brought an accessible system to the mainstream.

The Genesis had 16-bit graphics, double that of the NES’s 8-bit system. This marked improved graphics quality and the ability to enjoy more complex gameplay.

A very memorable game was Altered Beast, which came with many consoles when it was purchased. This was an RPG where you battled creatures as you progressed through many different levels.

The movement present in the game was clearly superior to Nintendo’s, and it was an excellent introduction to the next generation of game consoles.

Another classic game was Streets of Rage, which was a street fighting game where you scavenged the streets of dangerous neighborhoods to rescue people in threatening situations.

You had a few different fighters to choose from, each with different strengths. Also, there were weapons you could pick up along the way, giving you an advantage when fighting.

Last but not least, it’s my favorite sports game on console. NBA Jam was an offbeat basketball game that brought an arcade-like feel into the mix.

This brilliant basketball game was played in a two-on-two format and gave you the ability to perform dunks and acrobatic jumps as well as set fires. It was all extremely fun, and the game at the time was more advanced than anything we’ve seen before.

Oh the warm memories all these games bring back!
