Florida travel guide

Florida vacations are particularly popular with families with children of all ages. From family-friendly inns and hotels to luxury penthouses, Florida has first-class accommodations for everyone. When it comes to dining out, visitors will be spoiled for choice with restaurants to suit all budgets and palates, from seafood dinners to romantic alfresco dining and more. Shoppers will not be disappointed as Florida is a shopper’s paradise with amazing malls, designer boutiques and quaint little local shops. For culture lovers, there are a variety of attractions including state-of-the-art museums, art galleries, world-class ballet and opera. Entertainment ranges from fancy nightclubs to live music.

Sports fans are also catered for, with golf and fishing especially well catered for. With over a thousand golf courses, golf enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice. The warm weather here is ideal for golfing year-round, although peak golf season runs from January through April. Keen anglers can choose from inland freshwater lakes, shore angling or sport fishing, where they may be lucky enough to catch barracuda, marlin, tuna, tarpon and grouper. Florida’s sunny weather and warm waters are perfect for water sports including scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kite surfing, water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking and more.

Orlando offers an unforgettable fantasy world with Disney and Universal theme parks, yet many people forget that there is so much more to the ‘Sunshine State’.

Florida also has some amazing green regions with lakes and rivers, the Atlantic Space Coast, and the beautiful sandy beaches of the western Gulf Coast and Atlantic Coast. Florida has 1,200 miles of coastline with wide, white-sand beaches that are very popular with children and swimmers as they slope gently into beautiful calm waters, making them very safe for families with young children. Wilderness parks are abundant in the state, including the famous Everglades National Park, Rookery Bay Nature Preserve, and Big Cypress Swamp. Kids will love seeing alligators in the Everglades, an unforgettable experience swimming with the dolphins in the Keys, and of course exploring the Kennedy Space Center.

Then there are the resorts of Naples, Marco Island, Sarasota, Clearwater, and St Petes Beach, which are perfect bases for visiting places like Orlando’s theme parks and Tampa’s Busch Gardens African theme park.

Florida’s Space Coast has 70 miles of wide, sandy beaches, family-friendly resorts like Cocoa Beach, the world-famous NASA complex at Cape Canaveral, and great wildlife parks.

The vibrant city of Miami is famous for its elegant South Beach, its lively nightlife and a great selection of trendy restaurants, cafes and bars.

When you need a relaxing break, a boat ride along the coast to watch dolphins or an inland river cruise among mangroves and manatees or a leisurely catamaran cruise to admire the beautiful Florida sunsets is just what you need.

Florida has two distinct weather seasons: the dry season during the fall and winter, and the wet season during the spring and summer. The winter months are considered the best time to visit, as temperatures average 23°C and most days are dry. The summer months are hot, rainy and humid, with temperatures often reaching 32°C. Sea breezes from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean keep Florida’s coastal areas much cooler than inland areas.
