Survey on the art of breeding

German Shepherd – Breed Survey

breed survey

To breed a German Shepherd, there is an obligation to undergo a breed survey. This breed survey is designed to ensure that the dog meets all specific breeding requirements. When you want to have a German Shepherd it will be very valuable to have newborn puppies from parents already surveyed for the breed and this could be ensured if you can see the suffixes KKL1 and KKL2 in the name of the father and mother. KKL1 means the dog is recommended for breeding, while KKL2 means the dog is suitable for breeding. In other words, you have to have newborn puppies with their parents with pink papers issued.

Breed Survey Steps

1. Now, to breed a dog to international standards, there are certain steps associated with the process. This process implies that the dog passes already defined tests that in some cases seem difficult for a dog to fulfill. These involve having acceptable hips from a certified organization such as SV or OFA. Passable elbows would be an added bonus, so make sure you get an x-ray of your elbows, though it’s not the official requirement.

2. In addition, the dogs must credibly pass the AD test in which the dogs must run more than 12 miles. This test looks for structural incompetence and its ability and compatibility to execute the conditions and requirements.

3. After a successful AD test, the dog must submit to and pass an obedience test. The difficulty scale of this test depends on the judge involved, since some judges can be demanding.

4. Your dog’s build must be evaluated by a conformity judge who will award an overall grade on this evaluation. Your dog cannot be tested until the age of one year. You can complete this evaluation of your dog as soon as you like and it could secure the qualifications. The rating would simply be ‘G’ means good, ‘SG’ means very good, or ‘V’ means excellent. The ‘VA’ (Excellent Selection) is unique for a large national assessment program.

5. In addition to these conditions, there are other conditions that must be guaranteed in the breeding survey. These include dentition, size, color, temperament, sound safety, working ability, and general build. These tests are carried out in a breeding survey, so each breeding father or mother must guarantee the supposed ability to pass these international tests. Also, dogs should have a tattoo preferably on the right ear, but other locations are fine as long as they are obvious.

6. The dog must have at least a VPG I title, which is the condition to which the dog is mentally and physically attributed and could become a valuable friend with whom a man could accompany. The VPG is the main part of the breed test to ensure the dog’s ability to track obedience and protection.

What to know?

Now it is better to have enough knowledge about the organizations and sources that are involved at one or another stage in the improvement survey. There is enough information available on the Schutzhund regarding the VPG test. Acceptable hip testing and radiography can be done at a suitable organization such as the German Shepherd Dog Club of Germany or the Orthopedic Foundation of American.

All these types of tests have to ensure that German dogs correctly recognize, understand and request commands. These dog commands must be guaranteed in the breeding survey. German dog commands can be many such as obedience commands, tracking commands, and others.

Breed survey gives both sire and dam confidence in German Shepherd society and they are preferred over dogs that have not passed breeding tests. These tests are globally recognized and give dogs the ability to have more preferences in terms of newborn puppies, as their puppies would become more demanding than their untested counterparts.
